Belarus, Russia prepare for Union Shield 2019 exercise

Belarus and Russia have begun preparing for the Union Shield 2019 exercise, Belarus Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov said at the joint meeting of the defense ministries of Russia and Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The general staffs have embarked on the preparation of the Union Shield 2019 exercise, which will be the main event of joint training of the military administration and troops in 2019 and which will further improve the system of military security of the Union State, Andrei Ravkov noted.

Belarus president wants autumn field work finished by 7 November

Belarusian farmers should finish autumn field work by 7 November. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions during the government conference held on 22 October, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy.

During the government conference the head of state paid close attention to the state of affairs in agriculture. He heard out reports on autumn field work progress in individual areas and the country as a whole.

Plans to change definitions of Belarusian, foreign companies in new Tax Code scrapped

The new Tax Code will not change the definitions of Belarusian and foreign companies, representatives of the Entrepreneurship Development Council told BelTA.

An Entrepreneurship Development Council session took place on 17 October to discuss problems of the draft Tax Code. According to the petitions the council receives and according to mass media publications, Belarus' private sector was most concerned about oversight over transfer prices (chapter 11 of the General Part of the Tax Code) and the procedure for recognizing foreign companies as Belarusian tax residents (articles 15 and 16 of the General Part).

IAEA praises Belarus' preparedness for emergencies

Reliable mechanisms to respond to emergencies have been created in Belarus. Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Juan Carlos Lentijo made the statement after an IAEA mission finished work in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

An Emergency Preparedness Review (EPREV) mission sent by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) finished work in Belarus on 17 October.

Belarus, Russia sign $500m worth of contracts at 5th Forum of Regions

Belarus and Russia signed $500 million worth of contracts at the 5th Forum of Regions in Mogilev, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

We have reached the sum of more than $500 million. The bulk is the Belarusian export to the Russian Federation. I took a look at these contracts: two thirds of them are investment goods: machinery, tools, equipment, electronics, the speaker said.

Belarus president talks about importance of regional cooperation with Russia

It is in the regions of Belarus and Russia where multiple manufacturing chains begin to result in joint products. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the plenary session of the fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: Virtually every Belarusian product, including tractors, trucks, or cars or household appliances, contains a Russian component.

5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia opens in Mogilev

The 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is opening in Mogilev on 10 October. It will run till 12 October, BelTA has learned.

The key event of the forum will be a plenary session to discuss priority areas in the development of regional cooperation as a key factor of integration and the Union State construction. The session will be attended by Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin.

IMF revises upward Belarus' growth forecast

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has improved its forecast on Belarus' economic development, BelTA learned from the IMF's new World Economic Outlook.

According to the IMF, Belarus' economy will expand by 4% in 2018 and by 3.1% in 2019. Earlier, the fund projected Belarus' GDP growth at 2.8% in 2018.

According to the IMF, inflation in Belarus will make up 5.5% in 2018 and 2019.

Lukashenko meets with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with Ukrainian statesman and political figure, former president of Ukraine (2005-2010) Viktor Yushchenko in Minsk on 8 October, BelTA has learned.

There are many issues that I am ready to discuss with you, including the position of Ukraine in the CIS. Ukraine has announced its withdrawal from the CIS. It has not been officially done yet, however.

New PM Sergei Rumas introduced to Belarusian parliament

Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova introduced new Prime Minister Sergei Rumas to the House of Representatives on 5 October, BelTA has learned.

According to Natalya Kochanova, one of the priorities of the personnel policy is to form an efficient state apparatus able to ensure sustainable social and economic development of the country, quickly respond to present-day challenges and threats, take objective decisions in the interests of people and be accountable to people.
