Hope for Belarus' stronger stance in international trade after WTO accession

I hope that the accession to the World Trade Organization will strengthen Belarus' positions in the international trade, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said as he met with a WTO delegation on 1 November, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' membership in the WTO will help fortify our positions in the international trade and enhance the business and investment attractiveness of Belarus, Andrei Kobyakov noted.

Plans for new system to control Belarusian power engineering industry

A new system to control the power engineering industry will be created in Belarus, Belarusian Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik told BelTA in an interview.

The official said: Belarus has undertaken to synchronize all the approaches in power engineering industry as part of the efforts to create a common electricity market in the Eurasian Economic Union. Belarus has also undertaken to do the work that our partners in the EAEU did much earlier.

Belarus government dedicated to raising average salary to Br1,000 by year end

The government intends to fulfill the plans to raise the average salary in Belarus to Br1,000 by the end of 2017, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin on 27 October.

The deputy prime minister said that efforts to reach the average salary of Br1,000 are slightly behind the schedule. But we will try to reach it. The goal to hit the targeted parameters by the end of the year has been set, said Anatoly Kalinin.

IMF mission arrives in Belarus

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission arrived in Belarus on 26 October, BelTA learnt from the IMF office in Minsk.

The IMF mission led by Peter Dohlman will be working in Belarus from 26 October to 10 November. According to the IMF office in Minsk, the IMF experts are in Belarus to conduct annual consultations under Article IV.

The IMF deployed its previous mission to Minsk for the period of 5-12 June to discuss with the Belarusian government bodies the country's economic situation, cooperation issues and the preparations for the annual consultations under Article IV.

No complaints from Russian food quality watchdog about Belarusian companies so far

No complaints have been lodged by representatives of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) during the ongoing inspection, BelTA learned from Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, before the second international export forum Meat Belarus opened on 25 October.

Lukashenko urges to finish harvest campaign in Belarus by 7 November

The harvest campaign should be finished in Belarus by 7 November, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as heard out a report on the measures taken to finish the harvest campaing in the country and the proposals to improve the cultivated land structure in Vitebsk Oblast on 23 October, BelTA has learned.

Moratorium on new taxes in Belarus reaffirmed

Belarus' Minister of Taxes and Dues Sergei Nalivaiko reaffirmed the moratorium on new taxes and fees in Belarus in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 15 October, BelTA has learned.

We are not planning to impose new taxes, fees. This is reflected in the program of social and economic development of the country for the current period, and in the set of documents to be signed by the head of state (to stimulate business activity note by BelTA), Sergei Nalivaiko said.

Belarusian nuclear power plant to recoup investment in 15 years, reduce electricity prices by 15-20%

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is supposed to recoup investment in 15 years. There are plans to reduce electricity rates by 15-20% after the nuclear power plant goes online, BelTA learned from Yevgeny Chervyakov, Deputy Director General of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, on 12 October.

Yevgeny Chervyakov said that in line with the project's business plan the payback period is 15 years.
