Lukashenka directs district executive committees to develop service sector

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko directs the district executive committees to develop the service sector. The head of state drew attention to the relevant issues today, agreeing on the appointment of the chairmen of the Kobrin and Lyakhovichi district executive committees Mikhail Grishkevich and Alexander Kaminsky, the BelTA correspondent reports.

"We must bring to the mind the service enterprises, such as household services, and sewing and hairdressing salons, so that we can serve people, I'm not talking about trade, you live in the districts, you will have to do it," the President said.

Belarus presents its pharmaceutical industry at business forum in Tajikistan

Belarus' pharmaceutical industry has been presented at the international business forum Belarus-Tajikistan-Afghanistan. The information about it was posted on the website of the Healthcare Ministry with reference to Anatoly Grushkovsky who is in charge of the ministry's foreign contacts, BelTA has learnt.

A.Lukashenko to attend Supreme Eurasian Economic Council session in Sochi

A session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will take place in Russia's Sochi on 14 May, BelTA has learnt.

This will be the first meeting of the EAEU heads of state this year. The session will be attended by the presidents of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the prime minister of Armenia. The president of Moldova was also invited to take part in the session as a guest.

Possible decision on ways to set up digital economy ministry in Belarus in June

The mechanism for setting up a digital economy ministry in Belarus may be determined in June, BelTA learned from Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov on 10 May.

The official said: Work is now in progress on how it should be done, whether it should be a brand new ministry or a ministry based on some government agency. The news will be released soon, I think, in June.

Belarus' gold, forex reserves exceed $7bn

Belarus' gold and foreign exchange reserves exceeded $7 billion as of 1 May 2018, BelTA learned from the Information and PR Department of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

According to the preliminary data, Belarus' gold and foreign exchange reserves, if calculated in accordance with methods of the International Monetary Fund, totaled $7.038 billion (in equivalent) as of 1 May 2018.

Belarus' president set to visit China for SCO summit in June

Belarus' president is set to visit China to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in June, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said during a meeting with the Chinese journalists, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich informed that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is expected to visit China to attend the SCO Summit in Qingdao in June 2018.

Lukashenko: Favorable trends in foreign markets offer the prospect of additional budget revenues

Favorable external conditions offer the prospect of additional revenues to the budget, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a government session held on 3 May to discuss Belarus' social and economic development, BelTA has learned.

The conditions are favorable today. Rising world prices (for oil note by BelTA) are good for us too because this means the prices for petroleum products that we manufacture in Belarus are rising too.

Call to reduce inflation in Belarus to 3-4% by end 2020

The goal for Belarus is to reduce its annual inflation to 3-4% by the end of the ongoing five-year period, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting in the Zhitkovichi District Executive Committee on 28 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, there are no grounds to price growth in Belarus. Prices should be kept under control, the president added.

This year's inflation is projected at 5-6%.

Lukashenko, Sarkissian discuss situation in Armenia over phone

On the initiative of the Armenian side, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with Armenia President Armen Sarkissian on 25 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The Armenian president told the Belarusian leader about the current situation in the country, stressing that it remains complicated. The president of Armenia also talked about the conflict and mistakes, the situation in the parliament and the consultations he is currently conducting with the parliamentary coalitions, the press service said.

Belarusian farmers told to properly maintain agricultural machines

Enterprises are responsible for the proper maintenance of agricultural equipment, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said after hearing a report on fire safety and maintenance of agricultural equipment, BelTA has learned.

The president noted that the goal of the meeting is to review the progress in the implementation of the instructions given to various agencies.

According to the information that I have received, no proper work on maintenance of the machine and tractor fleet has been organized yet, Alexander Lukashenko said.
